Fresh off opening for Shakira in front of 2 million people on the Copacabana in Rio, Brazilian artist Maz is bringing his airy, Brazilian take on afrohouse to Sónar on Friday 19th June.
His music draws on the deep ties between African and Brazilian music culture, blending the deep, loping grooves of modern afrohouse with samba rhythms, percussion and Portuguese vocal samples. Just listen to his massive remix of Luedji Luna’s Banho de Folhas, the best-selling Brazilian release on Beatport in both 2022 and 2023, and you’ll already feel yourself lifted up and carried away.
But he hasn’t stopped there. Dawn Patrol, the record label and event series that he founded together with Antdot is more than just a platform for their own edits, back-to-backs and tracks, it’s also a vehicle to collaborate with other like-minded artists and support emerging producers.
There’s never been a better time to catch him than at Sónar 2026, where he’ll play a golden-hour session at SonarVillage by Estrella Damm.
